I used to anticipate movies starring Jason Statham. He seems like a good fit for the action genre, blending physicality with enough complexity to keep things engaging. It’s disappointing to see his films devolve into something as predictable as "Mutiny." This is an extremely shallow action movie that establishes a straightforward situation involving people being trafficked at sea, featuring stereotypical mercenary villains going up against a former military/police protagonist played by Statham. What follows is foreseeable, monotonous, and honestly quite dull. There’s nothing insightful about the characters' reasons for doing what they do, no clever writing or originality of any kind. Basically, it’s easy enough to watch, but also completely unremarkable as an action film.
