You simply shouldn’t cross him. Experienced detective Jack Murphy becomes a fugitive when he's wrongly accused of his ex-wife’s murder, forcing him to flee and hunt down the actual perpetrator. His quest isn't simple though; he also has organized crime figures trying to take him out. Murphy's Law is a genuinely entertaining and well-constructed thriller. Charles Bronson embodies a character needing an air of composure, which is expected from anyone familiar with his performances, but this particular quality elevates the film beyond many of his other movies from the 1980s. The storyline is straightforward, and some lines feel a bit cheesy, yet the action sequences are well-done, and there's a female antagonist who lives up to her role. Carrie Snodgress portrays Joan Freeman, and while her part is limited due to other plot developments, she brings energy and threat to the character. A subplot concerning Murphy and Kathleen Wilhoite’s young and profane Arabella McGee actually detracts from the film rather than improving it. Still, the underlying sexual tension between them creates an interesting progression—and it certainly helps the final scenes have more punch. Maybe I'm being too swayed by my admiration for Bronson? But I truly think this movie is unfairly overlooked on online platforms, so appreciate the cool protagonist and a memorable female villain, even if her character isn’t fully developed. 7/10
