Lucio Fulci directed this giallo in 1984, drawing inspiration from the popularity of “Fame” and “Flashdance,” while also incorporating elements reminiscent of “Curtains.” As anticipated, a mystery unfolds alongside slasher-style violence, though the film holds back on excessive gore, aside from one scene depicting a hatpin piercing a woman’s chest. The movie begins in a fairly enjoyable way, but it gradually becomes more artificial and strangely unengaging, especially as it moves into the final section. The charm of the initial scenes seems to be abandoned in favor of a less compelling mystery and the investigation surrounding it. Despite this, there are some inventive touches, and the actresses deliver solid performances. Maria Vittoria Tolazzi (as Jill), Angela Lemerman (Susan), and Belinda Busato (Gloria) stood out for me, along with Carla Buzzanca (Janice). Later films like “StageFright” and “Death Spa” explored similar themes with slightly more success. Nevertheless, this one is better than “Killer Workout.” The film’s length is approximately one hour and thirty-three minutes; it was filmed in a studio setting in Rome, supplemented by exterior shots taken in New York City.
