This second installment isn't bad, but it doesn't quite measure up. The narrative feels less substantial when it comes to Ming-Na Wen's character, and there's a greater emphasis on romantic elements rather than action sequences. As a result, I didn’t find it as entertaining as the first movie. The pace felt sluggish for me, and the plot was fairly easy to anticipate, so I couldn’t give it a higher score. Aside from Wen’s performance, the other actors aren't quite as strong, especially with Eddie Murphy not returning as Mushu. Mark Moseley does an acceptable job, but he can’t compare to what Murphy brought to the role. There are some new faces though; Lucy Liu (Mei) and Sandra Oh (Ting-Ting) join the cast. The soundtrack is nothing special, and neither is the animation. It's just a less impressive film overall, which I imagine many people would have expected. 'Mulan II' is still preferable to several other Disney animated sequels, like 'Cinderella II: Dreams Come True' or 'Belle’s Magical World', for example.
