This is solid Disney fare. There’s much to appreciate about the movie; it has some sections that aren't quite as engaging, but generally speaking, I think it will appeal to many viewers. The storyline is rather interesting, even if it doesn't reach the level of darkness or complexity it could have achieved. Ming-Na Wen delivers a perfectly adequate performance as the central character. Eddie Murphy’s voice work, however, sticks out most prominently. While I don’t particularly care for his character—he feels excessively exaggerated and somewhat jarring—Murphy is genuinely amusing, and his portrayal seems like an early indication of what would come with his role in *'Shrek'*. The rest of the cast doesn’t make a huge impact, but they all fulfill their roles. The animation is pleasing to look at, and some of the songs are memorable. I don’t especially admire the character designs, as mentioned earlier regarding Murphy’s Mushu. Beyond that, I also find Shan Yu (Miguel Ferrer)’s appearance unappealing; he just seems perpetually angry instead of frightening or intimidating. I would definitely recommend seeing this film—the rhythm keeps things pleasant to watch.
