Lally Shearer enjoys a comfortable existence with her parents until her father, Henry Stone, declares his intention to divorce her mother and pursue a relationship with Mrs. Cheever Millard. She’s deeply upset by this development and makes it clear she doesn't want anything more to do with him, though she continues to accept financial support from him. While on vacation, she meets Jack Montgomery, who is charming and outgoing. Their connection is immediate, but a surprising revelation arises: he’s the son of the woman responsible for her parents’ separation. The question becomes whether their relationship can survive this obstacle. Considering that motion pictures with sound were relatively new at the time, this film isn't bad. Shearer occasionally delivers an exaggerated performance, particularly toward the conclusion, but she seems aware of the need to moderate her usual dramatic gestures and adapt to the spoken dialogue, which is generally acceptable. Montgomery injects a sense of energy from his initial appearance, and there’s even a clumsy attempt at creating storm effects; while they don't fully succeed, the effort to build suspense is appreciated. It’s an agreeable romantic story complicated by infidelity, some playful banter, and it hints at the possibilities now that sound has been incorporated into filmmaking.
