I suspect Leslie Banks would be horrified by this substandard reimagining of what was once a genuinely unsettling narrative. Casper Van Dien now embodies the part, seemingly arriving to assist a man and his son after they’re stranded on an island. However, his generosity isn't exactly as it appears, and that becomes apparent when the father and son, identified as “Marcus” (Judd Nelson) and “Sanger” (Chris Tamburello), begin exploring this idyllic setting. They aren't there for leisure; instead, they’re targets in a dangerous pursuit. There isn’t much to recommend this film. While it’s competently made, the actors involved seem past their prime. Van Dien managed when he was younger and more physically imposing; Nelson did too, back when he had an edge; I've never understood how Bruce Dern has consistently found work - but here they simply deliver a lifeless and rather dull interpretation of a story about survival. It’s based on a short story, and it's true that those can be challenging to expand into a ninety-minute movie. Furthermore, director Justin Lee seemed unsure how to achieve this in an inventive way, so perhaps he shouldn't have attempted it at all.
