Merle Oberon, playing "Nicole," delivers a noteworthy performance within this story concerning Norway’s fight against Nazi forces. She provokes the disapproval of those around her through her interactions with "Maj. Dichter," portrayed by Carl Esmond; however, it's revealed she's been manipulating him to obtain intelligence for the British. The arrival of several commandos—including "Lowell" (Brian Aherne), who becomes “Nicole’s” romantic interest—escalates the tension and places everyone in peril. Simultaneously, "Dichter" begins to suspect something is amiss. This proves to be a well-constructed adventure film, enhanced by stirring music from Ernest Tock that culminates in an appropriately thrilling and poignant conclusion. The movie successfully conveys themes of bravery and valor. Dorothy Arzner effectively portrays the resilience of this young woman’s determination to contribute to her country's cause, even at great personal risk. There is a considerable amount happening throughout the film’s runtime, making it a worthwhile viewing experience.
