The film was popular when it was released, selling 3,056,736 tickets in France. According to Jean de Baroncelli, two segments stand out: _Marriage_, directed by René Clair, which he describes as skillfully crafted and deeply affecting, and _Adultery_, directed by Henri Verneuil, notable for the strong performances of Paul Meurisse, Jean-Paul Belmondo, and Dany Robin. The film originated from producer Robert Woog and screenwriter Jacques Rémy’s idea to create a movie about French women in love. To inform their project, they commissioned a survey from the French Institute of Public Opinion (IFOB), which polled 1,050 young men and women between the ages of 15 and 50 on seven topics: * (1) Childhood and the beginning of sexual curiosity * (2) Adolescence * (3) Whether virginity should be preserved * (4) Marriage * (5) Adultery * (6) Divorce * (7) Loneliness experienced by many women The seven segments visually represent the chapters of this study, which explains why the narration connecting them repeatedly references the statistical data.
