It’s remarkable to consider that this film was produced during World War II, given its extremely limited resources; the production schedule must have been very tight as well. Consequently, the presentation feels theatrical, with fixed scenery, frequent use of actual War Office footage, and a rather unremarkable screenplay. Despite these shortcomings, it remains an engaging story about three commandos tasked with freeing a Norwegian general held captive by the Nazis. The acting choices are peculiar; Victor Varconi doesn't bother to give "Col. Otto von Ritter" a German accent, and June Duprez feels like a weak echo of Valerie Hobson in her role as the Norwegian woman who has suffered repeated betrayals. Clocking in at just over an hour, it’s still fairly simple to sit through when viewed with an understanding of its historical context.
