A scheme is hatched by Don Ameche ("Dawson") and Lynn Bari ("Claire") with the goal of establishing an institution that would instruct those easily fooled on how to succeed. Their initial target becomes "Tad" (Henry Fonda), who participates in their contest for a chance to win $50 and tuition. While he isn't particularly interested in the education itself, his two new associates begin attempting to influence him to remain involved, with the intention of drawing in additional students and preventing the bank from foreclosing on a substantial loan. The complication arises when "Tad," through interactions with their prospective pupils, persuades them that there’s really no point in needing what they offer, leading them to want rid of him. A further twist appears as “Claire” finds herself drawn to “Tad's” genuine nature and innocence; when "Dawson" attempts to exploit this connection, the situation becomes somewhat complicated. The lead performers work well together, with Fonda portraying a character who isn’t quite as simple-minded as he seems. The writing is frequently humorous and effectively presented, and George Barbier and Edward Everett-Horton provide some enjoyable supporting performances that keep things progressing smoothly for just under eight minutes.
