The film “Jane,” starring Margaret Sullavan, centers on Jane who dozes off during one of André's (Charles Boyer) performances. This incident leads him to believe she’s unwell, and he subsequently learns she’s a doctor, sparking a rapid romance that culminates in marriage. Despite their commitment, both characters lead demanding lives, delaying their first encounter as a married couple. André then realizes Jane possesses a strong sense of independence. She secures an apartment on the twenty-second floor of his building—he resides on the seventeenth—and suggests they alternate visits, much to the amusement of the elevator operator. He resists this idea but seems unsure how to resolve the situation. Their friends encourage their antics, and eventually, both question what prompted them to marry in the first place. Will the marriage fail completely, or is there a possibility for compromise – perhaps on the twentieth floor? The performances by Eugene Pallette and Reginald Denny elicit occasional chuckles, however I didn’t perceive much chemistry between Boyer and Sullavan, and the initial comedic premise feels overused quickly. Following this, the situations become rather predictable, and beyond sporadic witty remarks, a significant portion of the dialogue doesn't meaningfully progress the story. It isn't really a conflict between men and women, more like a minor disagreement that passes the time pleasantly enough but probably won’t inspire anyone to watch it again.
