I anticipated something along the lines of Face/Off – perhaps even a Korean adaptation – when I started watching. However, despite some clear parallels, Devils establishes its own identity and managed to surprise me with an unexpected turn that I truly didn't predict. Those who appreciate films filled with blood, violence, and brutality will find plenty of gore here. Furthermore, the principal performers deliver strong performances, making their characters seem authentic. The murder sequences are particularly well-executed; a strange, hypnotic musical score paired with vivid lighting creates an unsettling mood that amplifies it even more. *** Mild SPOILERS ahead *** The initial premise might sound familiar: a detective pursuing a serial killer. It doesn't appear groundbreaking at first. But Devils distinguishes itself by incorporating a body-swapping element into the narrative. Consequently, you’re not just hoping the main character will apprehend the killer — you're also consistently concerned that he could be revealed as the perpetrator himself. I appreciated the central concept: occasionally, one must become like the evil they are pursuing to defeat it. Naturally, things don’t proceed as intended—and ultimately, people suffer and innocent individuals get caught up in the situation. I genuinely felt empathy for one of the characters. Ultimately, I enjoyed this film quite a bit. I would certainly suggest watching it.
