Dagmar and Co., a somewhat unusual offering from the 1970s, centers on a Swedish woman working as a call girl in Copenhagen, Denmark. The story follows her plans to leave that profession behind and marry her boyfriend back in Sweden. We see her during what she intends to be her final day as an escort, attending to various clients. This adult sex comedy distinguishes itself through its integrity, sophistication, depth, visual flair, and clever writing. It's quite unrestrained, alluring, and captivating. There’s also a distinctive, sensual atmosphere, bordering on voyeuristic. The film’s greatest asset is undoubtedly Dagmar, the central character portrayed by Diana Kjaer. Her performance in the title role is exceptional; it’s difficult to imagine anyone else embodying this part with such skill or effectiveness. She radiates assurance, panache, vitality, warmth, beauty, elegance, and magnetism, making her incredibly endearing. The believability of her actions stems from her complete commitment to portraying a convincing character. A peculiar aspect of the film is its avoidance of explicit sexual depictions. All intimate encounters occur off-screen; we witness moments leading up to or following them, or occasionally see a man’s reaction during certain acts, but full scenes are never shown. This seems odd given the abundance of nudity and the fact that it was filmed in the 1970s, an era when many countries permitted greater freedom in depicting sexuality on screen.
