Maggie Blinco gives a genuinely moving portrayal as "Liebe," a woman who has spent five decades with "Duncan" (Glenn Shorrock), a musician whose ambitions never quite materialized and who now carries a considerable amount of bitterness. Feeling stifled, he resolves to record a new album and reconnects with an old bandmate, “Justin” (John Gregg), who is married to her longtime friend, "Christine" (Belinda Giblin). A dinner gathering between the two couples quickly deteriorates, but not before "Liebe" considers it might be opportune to revive her dressmaking aspirations. Fortunately, she finds encouragement from "Hamish" (Hoa Xuande), a young man who urges her to pursue this endeavor. Feeling newly confident, she departs from her controlling partner and initially resides with “Christine,” although that arrangement doesn’t last before she finds herself in a garage beneath the home of a group of kindhearted Chinese exchange students. The question is whether she can manage on her own after so many years. Xuande also provides a pleasant performance as this narrative unfolds at a measured pace, effectively demonstrating how a little bit of resilience and determination – along with some business acumen – can help overcome the monotony and security that often define life for older individuals who feel emotionally confined. Unfortunately, the rest of the acting is somewhat lacking—particularly from Shorrock—and there are moments where the dialogue feels drawn out and unproductive, leading to an ending that leans toward optimism and resolution in a manner that I thought diminished the story’s central message. Nevertheless, it's a straightforward tale with merit, both to tell and to see.
