It’s questionable whether this film provides Alan Ladd with ideal material. He portrays a soldier within the Canadian unit of the British Army’s airborne division, uninterested in advancement or taking orders – simply completing his assignments is what matters to him. His superior officer, "Maj. Snow" (Leo Genn), suspects there's more to the story, and some digging reveals that "Canada" carries a recent history of sorrow. A respectable group of British actors attempts to elevate the film, but the initial thirty minutes feel excessively drawn out. Brief conflicts with Stanley Baker’s "Breton" rapidly convey essential information about "Canada," allowing for a considerably faster pace into the action sequences where, admittedly, it concludes satisfactorily as they skillfully navigate a minefield. It's acceptable viewing; Genn and Ladd perform adequately, though the film is ultimately quite unremarkable.
