The movie shares similarities with Bonnie and Clyde, but places that story within the 1970s Deep South. It possesses a raw quality, and you can sense the characters’ frustration as Bobby Lee—freshly released from prison after serving a year for trying to rob a grocery store—and Ruthie, who is married but unable to get a divorce, attempt to rebuild their lives in a depressing small town that Bobby quickly grows weary of. It's enjoyable enough and isn’t nearly as poor as many critics suggest. This marks Jack Conrad's first time directing, and while it’s not terrible, it does fall into familiar territory at times. After Jeff Bridges and Robert Blake were unavailable to play the part of Bobby Lee, Conrad ended up taking on the role himself, and he doesn't disappoint. Despite relying heavily on predictable elements and portraying characters who aren't exactly brilliant when planning their bank robberies or escapes, the film is entertaining and worth seeing if you get a chance.
