The movie borrows heavily from "The Four Feathers" (1939), yet manages to be a fairly enjoyable action-adventure story. Anthony Quayle ("Baker") and Sylvia Sims ("Miss Woodville") are involved in the effort to get the young daughter of the Emir of Barash "Asua" (Jenny Agutter) safely past the Mahdi’s army, which is fighting against the British in Sudan. It's a low-budget production that feels lightweight, and the indoor sets appear somewhat lifeless, detracting from the overall presentation. Quayle seems more suited to stage acting than film work; however, there's a noticeable spark between the two main actors, and sufficient action sequences prevent the plot from falling apart completely. It’s not something you’d remember seeing later on, but it remains acceptable as a classic boy’s own adventure.
