The movie *Francis Covers the Big Town* feels longer than it needs to be, though it's a slight improvement over two of the earlier movies in the franchise. A welcome change is the absence of any military storyline; seeing Francis visit New York City while trying to become a reporter provides a reasonably good plot. It does start to lose its energy as the roughly 85-minute length plays out, but I like this installment better than *Francis* from 1950 and *Francis Goes to West Point* in 1952. Donald O'Connor—even though his character is portrayed as somewhat less appealing here, seemingly on purpose—is still the most interesting part of the cast; Chill Wills, who provided the voice acting, deserves a mention too. Only three more films remain for me to view from this series.
