_**A spooky story set on the ocean featuring Doug McClure and Kim Novak**_ Two Coast Guardsmen, portrayed by Doug McClure and Michael Conrad, head out to check on an abandoned schooner in the Bermuda Triangle. McClure’s character discovers a survivor, played by Kim Novak, who recounts what happened during the disturbing events. Alejandro Rey appears as a minister, while Ed Lauter takes on the role of a sailor. "Satan’s Triangle," released in 1975, initially aired on television as part of the Movie of the Week series. The 1970s were responsible for some truly excellent or even remarkable TV movies, including titles like "Tribes" (1970), "Duel" (1971), "The Night Stalker" (1972), "Kung Fu" (1972), "Short Walk to Daylight" (1972), "Go Ask Alice" (1973), "Pray for the Wildcats" (1974), “Scream of the Wolf” (1974,) "Dracula" starring Jack Palance (1974), "Trilogy of Terror" (1975) and many others. This film certainly belongs among them. I have to admit, I didn’t anticipate much going in; my interest was simply sparked by a curiosity about how a TV movie from the 70s, with its inherent budgetary limitations, could possibly address the notorious ‘Devil’s Triangle’ and still be somewhat effective. All I can say is that it managed to win me over by the time the credits rolled. McClure consistently embodies a character you want to root for, and Novak remained striking at 41 years old during filming (her face and eyes are lovely). The majority of the film explains the unusual tragedy through flashbacks, leading you to believe the story has concluded. However, everything culminates in the final act, which skillfully delivers what’s needed. Of course, it doesn't quite reach the standard of “Dead Calm” (1989), but if you're searching for a suspenseful sailing drama/adventure that is brief and to the point, this one fits the bill. The movie has a runtime of approximately 1 hour and 12 minutes. Filming took place at Channel Islands, California (for the yacht scenes), with aerial footage captured in Oxnard, California (showing the helicopter flying out to sea) and Nauset Beach Light, Eastham, Massachusetts (the lighthouse).
