It took some time to figure out what kind of movie I was watching—whether it would center on romance or focus more on friendship. It wasn’t clear where the emphasis should lie. The romantic elements and stories about enduring friendships seemed to lessen as the film progressed, replaced by a thriller that felt rushed and didn't quite deliver the suspense it needed. The tension really fell away before the ending, almost like they were trying to wrap things up quickly. The visuals are inconsistent; sometimes pleasant, other times dark and reminiscent of a dystopian setting, which creates a sense of disorientation. Nia Dinata deserves credit for tackling unusual narratives and addressing potentially sensitive topics such as polygamy and dating before marriage at 17. Amanda Rawles is adequate in the lead role, enough to keep viewers engaged with what’s happening. Maizura's performance felt somewhat detached; her emotional reactions seemed contrived when she was thrown into conflict. Asmara Abigail is a standout, bringing both humor and genuine emotion to her character—the only part of the film I truly appreciated. The overall narrative feels rather lifeless. Go in with modest expectations, but if you’re interested in seeing something different, it might be worth your time.
