It’s genuinely frustrating that this film didn’t lead to more installments. Beatty was an ideal choice for Dick Tracy; he truly embodies the part, and delivers a strong performance. The movie feels like Burton's 'Batman,' but adapted for a comic-book setting. Madonna isn’t terrible either, largely because her portrayal is meant to evoke Marilyn Monroe, a role she apparently longed to play. The collection of villains is impressive, perhaps only surpassed by Batman’s own roster. Looking back, the lack of a truly memorable antagonist was likely the film's biggest flaw—no criminal really managed to stand out and leave a lasting impression. Pairing Dick Tracy off against two adversaries who could genuinely challenge him might have improved things. Despite that, it remains one of the most entertaining and overlooked comic-book movies in recent memory.
