The familiar territory explored by the "Crime Doctor" movies is revisited here, with "Dr. Ordway" (Warner Baxter) hired to look into a man’s puzzling experiences of appearing in unfamiliar locations. During his investigation, the doctor finds that this man has been murdered. The situation becomes more involved when he encounters “Irene,” the grieving fiancée (Ellen Drew), who comes from an affluent but troubled family and seems to hold secrets of her own. Two suspicious characters are also present, raising questions about their intentions toward her sister "Natalie." There's plenty to keep the doctor occupied, and thankfully, it avoids excessive psychological explanations, instead offering a mystery that the viewers are privy to for much of the runtime; however, it remains pleasant to observe Baxter piecing together the evidence and resolving the puzzle. It’s not exceptional—just straightforward, economical filmmaking—but Drew delivers a performance superior to many of the women in these films, and this entry stands out as one of the stronger installments within the series.
