The film *Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul* seemed to have real promise as a satire of religious practices, though beyond Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown’s committed portrayals, there wasn't much that proved genuinely amusing. Most of the jokes and references concerning religion and church life simply didn't connect; they fell flat. The serious dramatic elements felt overwrought and disrupted the intended mix of tones within the story. The concept behind using different aspect ratios seemed logical initially, but the frequent shifts in presentation ultimately became irritating rather than adding anything positive. It’s possible that people with a stronger understanding of religious beliefs and how churches operate in America might get more enjoyment out of it. Rating: D+
