Robert Duvall’s impact on movies is difficult to overstate. He's a character actor with such extraordinary ability that it couldn't be limited to supporting parts, and his career quickly gained prominence after appearing as Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird. Now 89 years old and still active, he has another film coming out soon—his 88th, to be exact. The movie Tomorrow from 1972 isn't widely recognized, even among those who appreciate Duvall’s work, but it features what I believe is one of his very best portrayals. It’s a deeply affecting and insightful story on its own, and Duvall elevates it considerably. If you get the chance to watch this film, you might notice—as I did—that Billy Bob Thornton seems to have drawn inspiration for his iconic Sling Blade character from it more than two decades ago. I wonder if he's ever acknowledged that?
