"Blue City" feels like a throwback to older films of its kind, though with considerably more profanity. It manages to deliver a few real surprises and features a character who is convincingly deceptive, which proves effective. The central mystery—the murder of Billy Turner's father, and the reason behind it—is captivating and remains consistently engaging throughout. The film also avoids simply becoming a straightforward revenge story that feels directionless; thankfully, it ultimately turns out to be more rewarding than that might suggest. The action is well-executed, and generally speaking, it’s noticeably better than many other films in this category.
