Phyllis Calvert, playing Maddalena, experiences an assault while in the woods, which leads to her developing a dual personality. She portrays both a married woman with a daughter away at school and a passionate gypsy involved with Stewart Granger’s character, Nino. The film is something of a silly melodrama that feels somewhat disjointed, yet it possesses a dark atmosphere, and the narrative proves strangely captivating. The production quality is reasonably good, enabling Calvert and Granger to perform effectively alongside Patricia Roc as Angela, whose presence adds another layer to the unfolding mystery surrounding the romantic elements. It might not represent either of the main actors’ finest work from 1945, but it's still enjoyable—just allow some time for the story to unfold.
