Gordon Mitchell’s portrayal of the famed "Achilles," reminiscent of Jack Palance, contributes to a sense of rigidity that ultimately diminishes the potential of this historical drama. While visually appealing—possessing impressive scope, costumes, and production values—the film suffers from pacing issues and feels protracted over its two-hour running time due to an abundance of dialogue. The conflicts between Achilles and Agamemnon, portrayed by Mario Petri, who also delivers a rather stiff performance, as well as the confrontations with Hector, played effectively by Jacques Bergerac, fail to ignite any real excitement. It’s possible I missed her presence, but Helen is notably absent. What's disappointing is that the film shows promise of something superior, yet the choices in casting and an aggravating musical score relegate it to a level below average.
