It’s difficult to overstate how strange this film is. Initially, it seems that every Samurai character is depicted as gay; while there's historical precedent for same-sex relationships, the portrayal feels excessive and overt. This comes across as an attempt to appeal to certain sensibilities, something I find tiresome. Aside from that, the plot appears somewhat tangled. It definitely pushes the themes of brutality and indifference too far. For instance, a villager expresses pleasure at the deaths of his wife, young daughter, and father. This raises questions about what message the movie intends to convey regarding family bonds—and it doesn’t seem like a positive one. Ultimately, I can't assign this film a rating. It feels as though it's trying to promote an agenda that many people are tired of seeing.
