The concept behind Ghost Train—centered on malevolent train cards and a spirit tormenting travelers—holds promise, but the film moves too quickly through its initial scenes and leans heavily on telling rather than creating suspense. While the reasons for the tunnel’s strangeness and the nature of the supernatural presence are ultimately revealed, a lack of sustained tension, inconsistent acting—including Erika Sawajiri's portrayal of Nana—and insufficiently developed background details detract from the final effect. Even with a straightforward storyline and competent production values, it comes across as something that could have been better, failing to completely tap into its potential for genuine scares.
