Having served fifteen years of a thirty-year sentence, Nelson (played by Richard Basehart) is released on parole and wants nothing more than to remain free. He manages to secure employment at a sanatorium after spending time in the prison hospital. While working there, he becomes attracted to nurse Ann (Dorothy Hart), but his financial situation prevents him from pursuing her. His luck changes when he encounters patient Jack (John Hoyt), another former criminal with tuberculosis who was allegedly involved in a million-dollar robbery years earlier. Jack offers Nelson money – contingent on Nelson’s assistance regarding his estranged wife, Celia (Signe Hasso). Celia has plans for the money and, along with a group of shady characters led by Garth (Henry Morgan), intends to acquire it by any means necessary. As a result, Nelson's safety is jeopardized, forcing him to be quick-witted if he wants to survive, avoid returning to prison, and potentially get his hands on the cash. Basehart isn’t known for being particularly captivating but delivers an adequate performance that keeps the thriller moving forward toward a peculiar ending involving a resurrection and a possible double-cross. It's fairly typical entertainment suitable for an afternoon viewing, and it is enjoyable enough.
