A cricket ball rolls into the disputed territory along the India/Pakistan border, putting a young boy named Jamal—played with charm by Julfuqar Ali—in danger as he attempts to get it back. Shortly after, two Indian soldiers are in pursuit and he’s forced to conceal himself among some rocks while a local schoolteacher, Bhola (Sushil Sharma), is questioned. The soldiers insist the person they're looking for could have been anyone, even a small child wearing bright red clothing. This understanding man offers Jamal protection and brings him to his village, where he meets the teacher’s daughter, who initially hesitates to help before devising a plan to keep him out of sight of those searching for him. The story then follows as the boy experiences a brief glimpse into what is essentially an indistinguishable culture before they attempt to follow his tracks and return him safely to his mother. It's a straightforward narrative that aims to highlight how pointless the borders, minefields, and soldiers who uphold them really are—lines that only exist on paper. The people living there simply desire peaceful coexistence, preferring to channel their competitive spirit onto the cricket field.
