OzAïdan on Flying Cars

3/10 · May 31, 2020

The central idea—a man developing a sudden interest in remote-controlled cars just before his wedding—is intriguing. However, while this unusual hobby propels the initial concept, subsequent choices made by the characters become increasingly hard to believe. The film introduces an underground RC car racing scene and the protagonist decides it would be suitable for a documentary. This feels like a significant opportunity that the movie fails to fully explore; delving deeper into this subculture could have been rewarding, particularly given the quality of the cinematography. A sixteen-year-old girl enters the picture, and the man begins forming a connection with her—a dynamic that immediately raises concerns. He receives coaching from her and becomes eager to perform increasingly daring jumps with his RC car, keeping it all a secret from his fiancée. Their bond strengthens during training… It’s presented as a dilemma: choosing between a young girl who brings joy and a fiancé he cares for. A simple reminder of the impending wedding might have eased tensions when his future wife eventually finds out about his lunchtime activities. The remainder of the story is largely unimportant. The characters feel underdeveloped, lacking emotional depth. While the premise involves an adult indulging in childhood hobbies, it seems to suggest immature behavior. Despite its visual appeal, I wish the plot had been better written.
