A spacecraft makes its way back from an exploratory journey to Mars, though only two members of the initial four-person crew made it – and one is in very bad shape. Fortunately, the other, identified as Iris (played by Nora Hayden), appears alert and recounts their experiences on the red planet while recovering in a hospital setting. The film reveals that this planet isn't desolate; instead, it’s inhabited by plant life resembling Venus flytraps and enormous ants. What begins as straightforward exploration gradually shifts as they realize the environment is growing dangerous, prompting them to attempt a return trip if possible. The acting and conversations are unremarkable, and the interior sets feel generic. A slightly more inventive aspect lies in the photographic approach of simulating the Martian landscape through red filters; however, this technique doesn't entirely succeed because it’s difficult to distinguish the characters from their backgrounds, though it’s clear someone attempted a unique visual style. The movie runs longer than necessary, but remains just about tolerable and isn’t significantly worse than many American science fiction films of the 1950s. Ultimately, the narrative concludes with a serious caution.
