I operate under a straightforward principle: if a movie fulfills its purpose and provides entertainment, I award it a perfect score. However, there's something important to mention: "Space Marines." Yes, “space marines.” I can practically envision the initial proposal for this film. The idea was to take *Alien*, that iconic horror in space, and transform it into an action-oriented space adventure, shifting the franchise’s focus so significantly that audiences might be reluctant to return to the original blend of science fiction and horror that had proven effective. And essentially, that's what transpired. The *Alien* series seemed to lose some of its horror identity with *Aliens*, which then led to considerable criticism for *Alien 3*'s attempt to revive the successful combination of those genres. *Aliens* shifted the franchise into a more conventional science fiction format...and it’s disappointing in that regard. Still, Ripley remains a compelling and exceptionally cool protagonist. *Aliens* builds upon her character, developing her from a resilient survivor into an incredibly tough warrior. The film also introduces several characters who quickly become fan favorites. Even though it departed from being a horror movie to become a fairly standard science fiction film featuring space marines, it remained a remarkably good science fiction film—stylish and enjoyable. A portion of me resents *Aliens* for moving away from the horror roots toward straightforward science fiction. Yet, another part acknowledges it as an excellent film in its own right, boasting a strong ensemble cast. Therefore, I’m awarding it a full 10 out of 10, despite my desire for it to resemble the original *Alien*. Simultaneously, I want to commend the boldness of taking the franchise in a new direction.
