What a letdown! This film, Aliens (1986), turned out to be quite a failure, particularly when considered alongside Alien (1979). James Cameron seemed to destroy the essence and feeling that made Alien special for numerous reasons. In my opinion, one of the biggest issues is the sheer number of characters he included; unlike in Alien, there are simply too many. Nearly all of the performers seem to be missing something, even Sigourney Weaver. The soldiers appear more focused on physical strength than intellect, which feels unrealistic and borders on absurd. I can’t figure out Cameron's reasoning behind this decision, especially considering he directed Terminator in 1984 and Terminator 2 in 1991. Another problem is the movie's runtime: approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes. It felt excessively long. Finally, there’s a lack of genuine enjoyment to be had. I regret saying it, but this film doesn't measure up to Alien. It misses the mark on depth, and sometimes it’s just better not to create sequels for popular movies. I’ve recently seen Chinatown (1974), Rosemary’s Baby (1968), Alien (1979), Fatal Attraction (1987), and they were all excellent films, but not Aliens.
