The narrative unfolds through a letter detailing how “George” (played by John Carroll) has spent his family’s money and now relies on his half-brother "Barry" (Robert Paige), a circumstance he finds deeply upsetting. An answer to his troubles arises when he proposes that his girlfriend, "Carlotta" (Vera Ralston), become the nurse for the unwell "Barry." Their scheme is straightforward: she would gain his trust, make him fall in love with her, and then they’d marry. Following the marriage, “Barry” would die, freeing her to wed “George” and claim the family inheritance. The film doesn't quite ignite; it’s more of a weak spark. It’s easy to anticipate what will occur, and aside from some moments featuring the manipulative "Ernie" (Broderick Crawford) and Henry Travers as the kindhearted "Dr. Mitchell," the story lacks conviction. Ultimately, it feels predictable. Blanche Yurka does her best to emulate Queen Mary in her role as his aunt “Blanche”—a sharp woman—and Hattie McDaniel adds some energy, though sparingly; still, the whole thing fizzles out after a hopeful beginning.
