It’s just a dull movie. *Westward Ho, The Wagons!*, clocking in at 90 minutes, still feels like a slog to get through. I had fun with Fess Parker and Jeff York in *The Great Locomotive Chase* from the same year, but they don't manage to make this one engaging. There are a few memorable musical moments, particularly the music that opens and closes the film, but those are the highlights. The storyline has issues as you might anticipate. It seems to divide itself into two different approaches when dealing with Native Americans; one is exactly what you’d expect from a movie made in 1956, while the other part is surprisingly thoughtful. Even if you overlook those aspects, it feels pretty fractured and generally uninteresting. I was simply let down by the whole thing. Disney has produced far worse films, but that doesn't prevent this one from leaving a bad impression.
