He draws his weapon with such deliberate slowness; it feels like he’d be better off just using his thumb to carefully pull back the hammer and aim. And the character who resembles Charlie does that for practically every shot. There's one scene early on, though, where he attempts to rescue someone from a lynching, which is pretty good. You can imagine something like that occurring, and it adds a little something to what’s happening. Otherwise, this feels like a typical Rene movie. The performances are wonderfully awful, but unlike his previous Western I watched, this one actually looks more like the real thing. It doesn't have that vibe of solving a mystery in a Wild West theme park, but rather presents an authentic Western environment... I just wasn’t aware the Dakotas looked like that. Or perhaps the opening was not intended to be set in the Black Hills. It's difficult to say with a film this lacking in narrative substance.
