I’m feeling pretty tired while watching this one. Even considering the year 1955, having made six *Francis* movies since 1950, *'Francis in the Navy'* must have been incredibly dull. It isn’t surprising, because most of them feel that way, but these are particularly slow going now. Francis himself seems distant again. Despite one more film being released in 1956, Donald O'Connor chose to leave the series at this point. He departs with a bit of flair, playing two roles—though they don’t really work well, I suppose. Clint Eastwood is the best part of the supporting actors, mainly because of how famous he later became. He seems stiff, and it’s his first role listed in the credits. I'm somewhat curious to see *'Francis in the Haunted House'* because so many people left—O'Connor, director Arthur Lubin, and Chill Wills who did Francis’ voice all didn’t return. Maybe that will be a change of pace? I suspect it won’t, but we’ll find out.
