Axone created an unsettling feeling in me, prompting some unexpected reflections. The film centers on the experiences of friends from Nagaland and other areas of Northeast India who are living as renters in Delhi. Their attempt to cook this particular dish—a Naga specialty known for its strong odor—for a friend’s celebration faces numerous obstacles, including harassment and prejudice. There were moments when I felt distinctly uneasy, but that's really the point of Axone; it resonates because it portrays realities. The acting is wonderful, with Sayani Gupta delivering what might be her strongest performance yet, complemented by great music incorporating sounds from Northeast Indian culture, and a straightforward narrative style. It’s definitely worth seeing. (Grade B). TN.
