The discovery of a corpse left outside the police station places "Lt. Carson" (William Gargan) in charge of investigating. The difficulty arises when he believes he’s identified the person responsible, only to have the body vanish and the evidence become contradictory, sending him back to the beginning. Could the spirited “Janet Bradley” (Carol Landis) be involved? Unfortunately, Otto Brower doesn't offer much that will engage the viewer. Gargan has consistently been unremarkable, and even with Miss Landis’s typically energetic performance, along with occasional attempts at humor, the story progresses as a rather plodding detective-noir film filled with misleading clues, as we spend twenty-four hours searching for those responsible—whether deceased or not! The runtime is just one hour, and it's competently assembled enough to provide entertainment on a dreary Saturday afternoon. It does include a subtle commentary on the ethics (or absence thereof) of law enforcement, the press, and those who fund them. It’s unlikely to stick with you after viewing, but it manages to maintain interest while playing out.
