Michael Craig delivers a noteworthy performance in this British crime story. He’s at the center of a group of ruthless criminals planning to steal money from a factory’s payroll, which initially seems vulnerable. However, things change when security increases and they switch to an armored van. Despite this obstacle, the gang presses on, encountering frustrating delays before finally succeeding in their heist—though tragically, the driver dies during the robbery. The deceased man's wife, Katie, portrayed convincingly by Françoise Prévost, refuses to accept what’s happened and, aligning with the police's suspicion of inside involvement, starts her own inquiry. Simultaneously, the death and the necessity of concealing the stolen money create tension among the thieves and with law enforcement gaining ground, paranoia begins to set in and they start to distrust each other. Director Sidney Hayers provides a briskly moving film, supported by a capable ensemble including Billie Whitelaw, Kenneth Griffith, and Tom Bell, all adding to the growing feeling of danger as "Insp. Carberry," played by Andrew Faulds, pursues the truth. The beginning does feel somewhat slow, but once it gains momentum, this becomes a captivating experience that concludes in an expected, yet satisfying manner.
