A group of five hikers are wandering through a scenic redwood forest when they unexpectedly find themselves in an old mine. It happens to be a gold mine, and some gold remains for them to take. They seem elated until an earthquake leaves one of them, Donna (Sage Mears), pinned beneath a rock. Now the others have to decide whether to focus on getting her out before something terrible happens, or just keep digging for gold. I’d probably choose the latter, because these characters are pretty selfish and the writing and plot aren't very good, stretching things out to nearly ninety minutes of unremarkable film. It doesn't work well as an adventure, and the overwrought emotional scenes from director Dean Yurke feel like beautifully shot but quiet, often exaggerated nonsense. Perhaps the gold was under a curse? Or maybe that’s how I felt watching it.
