The impression I get is that no one involved appeared to put any effort into elevating this film beyond a basic level of adequacy. It’s not terrible, mind you—it just doesn’t rise above mediocrity. It simply felt…unremarkable. The screenplay presented chances for unexpected twists and turns, but the creative team chose not to take them. They adhered strictly to a predictable structure, avoiding any deviation from what's familiar, delivering a plot that follows every expectation. This is precisely the kind of movie you could start watching at any point without concern about missing something important. I like Eric Roberts, and he’s entertaining even in his less successful roles, so his presence was certainly a positive aspect. And I have to give credit to those responsible for utilizing the truly dreadful alien costumes to their advantage. They were objectively awful, but somehow that contributed to an enjoyable, campy feel.
