“Air,” consistent with other noteworthy Russian films about wartime experiences, offers an unflinching portrayal. It makes clear that conflict is unpleasant, it doesn't offer leniency, and primarily, for numerous soldiers, there aren’t any positive resolutions. Those who live through it still contend with the anguish of recalling those they’ve lost, creating emotional scars that can persist across generations. The narrative centers on a young female Russian pilot. She is forced to reconcile her compassion by forming connections with others while simultaneously suppressing it through the detached act of ending enemy pilots' lives. The film demonstrates quality in every aspect. It's skillfully made and features noteworthy performances from the actors involved. At times, it can be an upsetting, profoundly sorrowful, even exhausting experience—as any truthful depiction of war should be. Ultimately, "Air" rejects any idealized or romanticized notions about combat in the air. Essentially, it’s a straightforward examination of the harsh reality and unyielding nature of warfare. It deserves to be seen.
