This film attempts to explore themes related to local governance, community engagement, and potential cultural disagreements. However, the way it’s presented ultimately prevents it from being truly effective. The story begins with an underdeveloped introduction of a teacher named Niklas (played by Kristoffer Appelquist), and we are then introduced to Karin (Cecilia Milocco) who is dealing with issues concerning her son—though we aren't given much context. We quickly move on to a town meeting where she must speak before residents worried about the proposed placement of immigrant children, primarily boys, within their area. Concerns arise regarding potential danger, possible escapees, safety for women, and financial implications, along with questions about why community input was lacking. These are all natural inquiries one would anticipate being addressed. Some attendees appear receptive to the idea, while others seem resistant, but as voices escalate and Niklas has difficulty interjecting a question about school funding, it becomes apparent that Karin is preoccupied with something else. Then, seemingly without purpose, a chair falls over, and the film abruptly ends, leaving us uninformed about nearly all of the issues raised at the beginning. There's a lack of character development, an abundance of confrontational conversations, and I’m left feeling like I missed something crucial. Perhaps the problem wasn’t that people weren’t speaking but rather that no one was truly listening.
