This is a television film—a puppet animation that aired on NHK. A German-language version appears as an extra feature on a 2010 German DVD release of the movie Magic Boy (1959). It functions as a pleasant, short Japanese fairytale, featuring some unsettling moments. The puppets are skillfully crafted and the settings are visually appealing.
