The central conflict in "Welcome Home" is a powerfully felt and thoroughly developed situation. Jake has been deceased for 17 years, but the military’s surprising finding that he's alive creates a difficult circumstance for the U.S. armed forces. He is initially concealed, however, when there's a chance it might be an error, questions emerge suggesting the military knows the locations of numerous other Vietnam veterans—a reality they clearly aren’t ready to share because of the potential for a significant and very harmful controversy. Ultimately, this carefully constructed drama represents an outstanding film that deserves more recognition.
