The local news meteorologist, “Sean,” portrayed by Matt Bomer, experiences a momentary lapse during a broadcast and is given some time off to tend his garden. While he’s away from work, it becomes clear that he's recently ended a relationship, all that remains of which is an empty space on the patio where a plant used to be. Attempting to manage this himself proves difficult, so he hires “Ernesto,” played by Alejandro Patiño, seeking help from a group of laborers at a nearby corner. Ernesto’s English isn't strong, but he diligently performs his duties while "Sean" unexpectedly finds himself increasingly attracted to this older, heterosexual man who seems content with the payment for his labor and shows no indication of any romantic or emotional interest. The task of covering the patio spot is quickly completed, leading “Sean” to invent other reasons to spend time with “Ernesto,” a situation that puzzles the man’s wife. Over time, however, a sense of understanding and mutual respect develops between them. Essentially, it's a film about friendship, and while Bomer holds top billing, Patiño truly shines as his character is thrown into this unfamiliar dynamic. His expressions are often quite funny as the narrative loosely progresses without any clear direction or purpose. There are moments when it offers a genuinely warm exploration of dismantling prejudices, preconceived notions, and stereotypes, all without a specific message to convey—and it's certainly worth seeing.
